How Germany CVs differ from US resumes

CV length

German LebenslΓ€ufe often run 2-3 pages with full personal details; trim to 1-2 pages, prioritizing last 10 years + skills. Some traditional German CVs are still tabular β€” convert to single column.

What we remove for US format

Common on Germany CVs, but never on US resumes:

  • Photo
  • Date Of Birth
  • Marital Status
  • Nationality
  • Religion
  • Id Numbers
  • Father's Name
  • Mother's Name
  • Signature
  • Declaration
  • Referees

Layout fixes we apply

  • Remove 'Lebenslauf' header at top β€” replace with name + role
  • Remove 'PersΓΆnliche Daten' section (photo, DOB, marital status, nationality, religion, place of birth, etc.)
  • Remove signature block ('Ort, Datum' + signature line) β€” US resumes never have these
  • Remove 'Referenzen' section β€” and do NOT add 'References available on request'
  • Convert DD.MM.YYYY German dates to Month YYYY format
  • Keep German city names (Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, etc.) β€” do NOT invent a US address
  • Keep German phone numbers in international format (+49)
  • Convert German grades (1.0-4.0 scale) to U.S. GPA β€” only if recent grad
  • Convert ECTS grades to U.S. GPA if listed β€” only if recent grad
  • Translate German job titles using the mapping above, but present as a SUGGESTION to the user

FAQ

Is the Germany to US resume converter really free?
Yes β€” completely free. No signup, no credit card. We limit each IP to 3 conversions per day to keep AI costs reasonable, but most users never hit that.
Do you store my Germany CV?
No. Your CV is processed in server memory during the request and deleted immediately after. We never persist it to disk, database, or cache. Read our Privacy page for the full promise.
What if my Germany CV is in another language?
de (German) β€” accept CVs in German or English; output English
Do you invent facts or numbers?
Never. If a bullet would benefit from a number (e.g. 'managed X devices') and you didn't provide one, we leave a placeholder like '[add number, e.g. number of devices managed]' for you to fill in. We never fabricate jobs, dates, employers, skills, certifications, degrees, or numbers.
Do you ask about visa or work-authorization status?
No. We do not ask about, store, or include visa status on your resume. That's between you and the employer.
Why does my Germany job title show as a different US title?
German 'Teamleiter' and 'Abteilungsleiter' do not map cleanly to U.S. seniority. Present as 'Team Lead' or 'IT Manager' as a SUGGESTION, never an upgrade. 'Werkstudent' should be presented as 'Intern' β€” it is a part-time student role, not a junior full-time role.
How do I download as PDF?
After conversion, click 'Print / Save as PDF'. Your browser's print dialog opens with the resume on US Letter size, single column. Choose 'Save as PDF' as the destination.
